A meeting of the UN Security Council on Venezuela may take place on Monday, January 5, the international organization told Izvestia.

The time of the meeting has not yet been chosen.

Earlier in the day, Russia's permanent representative to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Dmitry Polyansky said that Russia supports the request to hold an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council on the situation in Venezuela.

On January 3, US President Donald Trump spoke about a successful and large-scale attack on Venezuela. He also noted that Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife were captured and taken away from the territory of the state. According to Trump, the US military took Maduro and his wife away after they were captured by helicopter. Then they were put on a ship.

Trump also did not rule out a second wave of strikes against Venezuela. According to him, the United States wanted to carry out the operation a few days ago, but it was postponed due to bad weather.

The Russian Foreign Ministry called on the American leadership to release Maduro and his wife. In addition, the Ministry also stressed the need to create conditions for resolving existing problems between the parties through diplomatic means.

All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
