The German Christian Social Union (CSU), which is part of the ruling coalition, advocates stricter migration policy and demands the deportation of most Syrian refugees from Germany. This was reported on January 2 by the Tagesschau portal with reference to the CSU draft resolution.

The draft resolution for the upcoming closed meeting of the CSU states that the majority of Syrian refugees should be sent back to their homeland. For Syrians who have the right to temporary residence, after the end of a civil military conflict, the grounds for protection are canceled.

"For those who do not want to leave voluntarily, repatriation should be started as soon as possible. In 2026, a "deportation operation" is to take place, with regular flights, including to Syria and Afghanistan," the resolution says.

The CSU also wants to take a tougher course with regard to Ukrainian refugees, especially with regard to "Ukrainian men fit for military service." However, there is no more detailed information about plans for Ukrainians in the project.

The Suddeutsche Zeitung (SZ) newspaper reported on December 8, 2025 that Germany would not accept additional refugees under the European Union (EU) solidarity mechanism. It was noted that up to 21,000 asylum seekers are planned to be resettled within the EU as part of a mechanism to reduce the burden on the most refugee-burdened countries.
