The American military industrial corporation Lockheed Martin has received a contract for the sale of military equipment for the Air Force of Taiwan in the amount of $ 328.5 million. This was reported on January 1 by the Reuters news agency, citing a statement from the Pentagon.

"The Pentagon announced that Lockheed Martin has received a contract to supply military equipment to Taiwan to meet, in Washington's words, the "urgent operational needs" of the Taiwan Air Force," the material says.

The US Defense Department said that the contract value is $328.5 million.

"This contract provides for the purchase and supply of 55 advanced infrared search and tracking sensor modules, processors, module containers, and processor containers necessary to meet the urgent operational needs of the Taiwan Air Force," the Pentagon said in a statement.

Work under the contract will be performed in Orlando and is expected to be completed by June 2031.

On December 18, Reuters reported that the Pentagon had approved the sale of $11.1 billion worth of weapons, equipment and military services to Taiwan's Ministry of Defense. It was clarified that the proposed arms sale covers eight types of weapons, including HIMARS missile systems, howitzers, anti-tank missiles, drones and parts for other equipment.

On December 29, US President Donald Trump expressed doubts that China would take military action against Taiwan. He also mentioned that he is on friendly terms with Xi Jinping.
