The court in Hurghada gave two years in prison to the captain of the sunken bathyscaphe with Russians

A court in Hurghada has sentenced to two years in prison the captain of a bathyscaphe that killed seven Russians. This was reported on December 31 by the Cairo 24 TV channel.

"The court <...> sentenced the captain of the submarine that sank in Hurghada to two years in prison and a bail of 2,000 Egyptian pounds, and the head of maintenance to six months in prison and a bail of 1,000 pounds," the publication says.

It is noted that based on the report of the specialized commission, the defendants in the case were charged with manslaughter and causing bodily harm by negligence.

The crash of a bathyscaphe with Russians on board off the coast of Hurghada became known on March 27. There were 45 Russian citizens on board, six of whom, including two children, died. The company that organized the tour, Sharm Hurghada Excursions, told Izvestia that the bathyscaphe had been in operation for about 10 years.

A source from Izvestia reported on March 28 that two Russian women, including a little girl, are in hospital after the crash of a bathyscaphe. Later, her father reported the death of a minor.
