On December 23, the FSB's Public Relations Center published footage of the detention of a criminal group that illegally legalized over 2,000 foreigners from Eastern countries in Russia and earned 500 million rubles.

"I was applying for a business visa," one of the detainees said.

According to him, he heard from someone that the participants of the criminal scheme worked on marketplaces in St. Petersburg and Moscow. Another detainee said that he was detained because his company had created documents on illegal migration. The third criminal also confessed. The third reason for the detention was the fulfillment of work on invitations from foreign citizens.

On the same day, it was reported that the organizer and 20 members of the group had been detained, illegally legalizing more than 2,000 foreigners from Eastern countries in Russia. As part of the operation, 65 searches were conducted in the Rostov, Novgorod, Leningrad, Ivanovo regions and Perm Krai, over 100 people were interrogated and forged documents, equipment and money were seized.
