The European Union (EU) has changed the formula from inflicting "strategic defeat" on Russia to "inflicting maximum damage" due to the incomprehensibility of these plans. This was announced on December 18 by Sergey Naryshkin, Director of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR).

"They are no longer focusing on "strategic defeat," because they actually understand that it is unattainable, but on causing maximum damage to Russia," TASS quoted him as saying.

According to the director of the SVR, these measures are the "longed-for dream" of the current generation of European politicians.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on December 2 that Russia was not going to fight with Europe. He clarified that if Europe suddenly wants to go to war with the state, then the Russian Federation is ready "right now." Putin stressed that Russia was acting "surgically" in Ukraine, but in the event of an attack by European countries on Russia, everything would be different.

In October, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that almost all members of the European Union (EU) and NATO were rallying in an attempt to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia. According to him, the Russian side is fully aware of its special responsibility for maintaining international peace and security.
