By the end of the second decade of December, snow covers 95% of Russia's territory. This was announced on December 18 by the scientific director of the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia Roman Vilfand.

He specified that fluctuations in the percentage of snow cover do not exceed 1-1.5%.

"In general, snow covers 95% of the country's territory. The remaining 4-5% are in the Southern, North Caucasus and Central Federal Districts," the forecaster told TASS.

In addition, Vilfand added that at the moment a light snow cover remains in the north of the Rostov region. Precipitation fell in the Central Federal District last week, but at the time of publication, the snow cover had already disappeared.

Earlier, on December 17, Wilfand announced the onset of frosts up to -40 degrees in a number of Russian regions. He noted that such a situation will be observed in the Khabarovsk Territory, Amur Region and Yakutia. In addition, the air temperature in some areas located in the north of the European part of the country will be significantly lower than normal.
