260 road accidents have occurred in Russia over the past day.
According to operational data from the State Traffic Inspectorate, 260 road accidents occurred on Russian roads over the past day, in which 30 people were killed and 309 injured. 23 of the dead were drivers and passengers. This was reported to Izvestia on December 17 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
As a result of 102 road accidents, 64 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 38 outside their area of operation, seven pedestrians were killed, and 102 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured were 22 underage pedestrians, 14 of whom were injured while crossing the roadway at designated locations. Over the past day, 28 accidents involving minors have been registered, in which 30 young road users, including eight passengers, were injured. There are no dead children. 26 accidents involving buses were recorded, in which one person was killed, 44 more road users, including one child, required medical assistance. 15 bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by drivers of other vehicles.
For example, in the Bryansk region, on 366 km of the M-3 Ukraine federal highway, a 52-year-old passenger car driver fell asleep at the wheel and drove into the oncoming lane, where he collided with a school bus carrying ten high school students and nine accompanying adults. As a result of the accident, the bus driver and three of his passengers were hospitalized with injuries.
The State Traffic Inspectorate urges motorists not to overestimate their strength and closely monitor their health. You should get behind the wheel cheerful and well-rested. At the slightest sign of fatigue or malaise, it is necessary to abandon the trip until a full rest or recovery. The lives and health of other road users depend on the well-being of motorists, the department emphasizes.
"Drivers should take special care when passing intersections and pedestrian crossings. When approaching them, you should slow down to the minimum speed in advance in order to have time to stop and allow pedestrians to pass. You should not rush to start moving even at the allowing traffic light signal — first you need to make sure that the pedestrian crossing is completely free," said Police Colonel Sergey Hrantskevich, head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and prevention of child traffic injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
In addition, the State Traffic Inspectorate reminds parents of underage pedestrians of the need to be more attentive to their children, trying to ensure maximum safety for them. Even a short absence or the slightest negligence of parental control over the behavior and leisure of children of preschool and primary school age often leads to injuries or deaths of young road users, the traffic police said.
"Whenever possible, always accompany young pedestrians to school, sports sections, educational classes, and at the end of lessons or clubs — home. At the same time, be sure to use retroreflective elements on the clothes of pedestrian children to improve their visibility to drivers on the road in the evening," Sergey Hrantskevich reminded.
The day before, it became known that in the north of Moscow, a truck driver killed a woman crossing the road at a controlled pedestrian crossing.
