Five men were detained in Bavaria on suspicion of preparing a terrorist attack.
In Germany, five men were arrested on suspicion of preparing a terrorist attack on a Christmas market in the Dingolfing area of Lower Bavaria. This was reported on December 14 by Der Spiegel magazine with reference to the Munich Prosecutor General's Office.
According to the newspaper, arrest warrants were issued against four of the five detainees, and one was placed in a preventive police detention center. The suspects planned to commit an attack using a vehicle. The target was one of the Christmas markets in the Dingolfing-Landau area.
It is specified that among the detainees are a 56—year-old Egyptian, a 37-year-old Syrian and three Moroccans aged 22, 28 and 30 years. According to preliminary investigation data, the eldest Egyptian detainee called for an attack in one of the mosques in the region.
The magazine adds that the arrests were carried out on December 12 by the Central Directorate for Combating Extremism and Terrorism. The investigation into the circumstances of the case continues.
On the same day, a knife attack took place in the German city of Herford, as a result of which a 16-year-old teenager was seriously injured. An argument broke out between two teenagers who knew each other, during which the 15-year-old suspect took out a stabbing weapon and stabbed his peer in the back.
