WSJ: Special Envoy Witkoff to meet with leaders The EU and Zelensky in Berlin
US President's Special Envoy Stephen Witkoff will hold meetings in Berlin over the weekend with European leaders and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to discuss the terms of a peace agreement. This was reported on December 13 by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ).
"The decision to send Witkoff to Berlin indicates the desire of the American administration to overcome the differences between Washington and Kiev regarding the terms of the peace deal," the newspaper writes.
According to the newspaper, Witkoff will meet with negotiators from the UK, Germany and France on December 14-15. French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, as well as their advisers, are expected to attend.
A day earlier, RMF FM radio station reported that a meeting of representatives of Ukraine and Western countries in Paris on the settlement of the conflict, scheduled for Saturday, December 13, would not take place.
On the same day, US President Donald Trump made a statement that great progress had been made in resolving the Ukrainian conflict. He stressed that Washington expects to understand soon whether there is now a prospect of concluding a deal to resolve the conflict.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on December 11 that the Russian Federation had noted a sharp increase in the number of speculations about Ukraine, which aimed to prolong the conflict and disrupt diplomatic efforts to resolve it.
