Some common recommendations from the Internet cause dentists to worry about possible damage to teeth, sometimes unnoticeable, but expensive to treat. Kirill Polyakov, Candidate of Medical Sciences, maxillofacial surgeon, dentist-surgeon of scientific dentistry "Naudent", told about it on December 13.Газете.Ru ".

"The videos claim that soda is a simple and "natural" remedy for yellowness. But the doctor explains: for enamel, soda is like a rough skin. It peels off the top protective layer, making teeth loose and sensitive. Light lightening does happen, but only because the enamel is thinning. As a result, sensitivity, dark spots and a direct path to treatment appear, which will definitely cost more than any whitening paste," the expert said.

The first dangerous advice that Poles drew attention to was brushing your teeth with baking soda to "lighten the enamel."

The second option is to wipe your teeth with lemon or vinegar. Polyakov explained that the "home bleaching" that bloggers like to share actually causes a severe blow to the enamel: acids literally corrode it, microcracks appear, teeth become softer, and gums react with soreness, and recovery takes months.

He called the third one the use of "home-made" braces and veneers with glue. According to the doctor, this is one of the most absurd and dangerous trends: improper pressure, cheap materials, gum inflammation and malocclusion can lead to tooth loss.

Number four was brushing teeth with activated charcoal. The expert added that charcoal is the same abrasive as soda: it does not whiten, but scratches the enamel, pigment clogs into microcracks faster, teeth darken, and plaque adheres more strongly; the more often a person uses charcoal, the worse the result.

The fifth harmful advice is not to visit the dentist until nothing hurts. Polyakov stressed that many diseases of teeth and gums go on for a long time without pain; those who wait for pain come with complications that require serious treatment.

The dentist summarized that almost all such tips are united by the desire to get a quick and free result, and stressed that it is better to trust specialists with a safe, snow-white smile, rather than commercials with promises of miracles without cost.

The journal Verywell Health reported on December 10 that excessive sugar intake provokes a wide range of disorders, from fatigue and sleep problems to the risk of diabetes, heart disease and cognitive decline. Experts have recorded an increase in diseases associated with high doses of added sugar.
