Ukraine intends to interest the United States in a new approach to resolving the situation in the east of the country by proposing the creation of a "free economic zone" in Donbas. This was reported on December 11 by Politico, citing sources.

According to media reports, Kiev's new plan involves the formation of a demilitarized territory where "American business interests could operate." According to sources, this idea is intended to involve US President Donald Trump in the process. One of the interlocutors of Politico noted that "The White House is using the latest corruption scandal to increase pressure on [Ukrainian President Vladimir] Zelensky."

Sources of the publication also claim that Trump perceives Ukraine as the weaker side of the conflict, especially against the background of the resignation of the head of the presidential office, Andrei Ermak.

Earlier in the day, it was reported that Washington was actively looking for ways to resolve the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. The US administration has declared its readiness to send a delegation to Europe for negotiations if there is a real prospect of reaching an agreement. The White House stressed that the American side has already held dozens of hours of talks with Russia, Ukraine and European partners, and Trump expects concrete results, not "meetings for the sake of meetings."
