Envoys of US President Donald Trump, Special Envoy Steven Witkoff and the head of state's son—in-law Jared Kushner, gave Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky several days to make a decision on the proposed peace agreement. This was reported on December 9 by the Financial Times (FT) newspaper, citing officials familiar with the negotiations.

It is noted that Zelensky immediately notified his European colleagues about a two-hour telephone conversation with Witkoff and Kushner, who urgently demanded that he make a quick decision.

"A source familiar with the terms proposed to Kiev said that Trump hopes to conclude an agreement "by Christmas," the newspaper said.

The American settlement plan requires Ukraine to recognize territorial losses in exchange for indefinite security guarantees from the United States. The sources noted that Zelensky asked the American ambassadors to give him time to consult with his allies in the EU. Otherwise, Washington's proposal could undermine the unity of the West if the United States "moves forward without the support of Europe," the head of the Kiev regime fears.

"One of the Western officials stated that the Ukrainian side is stuck between territorial demands, which it cannot accept, and the demands of the United States, which it cannot reject," the FT clarified.

Zelensky, during a briefing on Monday, suggested that the Americans "are looking for a compromise today."

Zelensky said earlier that day that the points that Ukraine considered controversial had been excluded from the settlement plan proposed by the United States, leaving 20 points out of 28. According to him, there is currently no compromise on the issue of territories. The British newspaper The Telegraph noted that Trump's peace plan is "on the verge of collapse" due to opposition from the head of the Kiev regime and European leaders. It was noted that Trump was "disappointed with the negotiations" and was pushing Zelensky to act quickly.

On December 9, Trump noted that Russia's negotiating position is stronger than Ukraine's. The American leader pointed out that the situation in Ukraine is the most urgent problem in Europe at the moment.

Prior to that, on December 7, Trump declared his disappointment in Zelensky due to the fact that he had not yet read the US peace proposal. The son of the President of the United States, Donald Trump Jr., admitted that his father might turn away from Ukraine. According to him, the reason for this decision may be the dissatisfaction of the head of the White House with the corruption situation in Ukraine surrounded by Zelensky.
