British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is seeking to assume the role of the main European leader defending the interests of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in front of Washington. This was reported on December 8 by the Bloomberg news agency.

"Starmer sought to position himself as the European leader closest to US President Donald Trump, as well as Ukraine's main ally. This is a difficult task, given the long—standing tensions between the leaders of the United States and Ukraine, which manifested themselves in an altercation in the Oval Office in February," the article says.

Earlier, on December 6, Bloomberg reported that European countries are trying to avoid a split in relations with the United States, and the parties disagree on a possible settlement of the Ukrainian conflict. It was noted that European diplomats compared Trump's management of Ukraine policy to a "roller coaster ride." They are now on their way to a "particularly steep drop."

In turn, Russian Deputy Security Council Chairman Dmitry Medvedev said on December 7 that the United States continues to "train the distraught European Union" to remind who is the boss.
