- The United States will resume granting asylum to migrants after verifying applications
The United States will resume granting asylum to migrants after checking applications for new standards. This was announced on November 30 by the US Secretary of Homeland Security, Christie Noem, to NBC News.
"Secretary of Homeland Security Kristy Noem stated <...> that the process of granting asylum to migrants will resume after the administration deals with the accumulated applications according to the new standards," the TV channel noted.
This measure was taken after the terrorist attack on the US National Guard at the White House on November 26.
Earlier, on November 26, two National Guard officers were shot at near the White House in the United States. Later, one of the victims was reported dead, while the second wounded man continues to fight for his life. It was established that the attacker was an Afghan citizen who arrived in the United States in 2021 during Biden's presidential term.
In this regard, on November 27, US President Donald Trump made a statement that many Afghan citizens entered the country without the necessary checks. He noted that when it comes to asylum seekers, their removal is a significant difficulty, but now the authorities plan to expel all such persons. The politician also promised to stop migration to the United States from "third world countries."
The Wall Street Journal reported that Trump intends to implement a large-scale "reverse migration" program and instructed the Department of Homeland Security to expand the list of high-risk countries, as well as tighten control over all migration procedures after the shooting in Washington.
