- The State Duma responded to the statement of the European Commission on the division of Ukraine
The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, is belligerent and is trying to inflame the situation instead of engaging in a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. Svetlana Zhurova, deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Relations, said this on Thursday, November 27.
The day before, von der Leyen said that it is impossible to allow the division of Ukraine in the future, as this will become a precedent for future wars and conflicts, IA Regnum reports.
Zhurova noted that the head of the European Commission probably deliberately ignores other recent conflicts that have led to changes in the territories of states. According to the MP, von der Leyen is the only one who is so belligerent in Europe, despite the fact that plans for a peaceful settlement are already emerging.
"I think she's escalating the situation in this way. They already understand in Ukraine that some lands cannot be returned to them, although they do not voice this out loud. Because these territories themselves do not want to return there, people do not want this, because they saw what was done to them," the parliamentarian explained in a conversation with Lenta.Ru .
The Bild newspaper reported on November 22 that the EU member states expressed a desire to amend at least four points of Trump's peace plan for a settlement in Ukraine. It was noted that they did not like the provisions written there on the issue of territories, as well as on frozen assets of the Russian Federation. The Washington Post (WP) reported on November 23 that European leaders have developed an alternative proposal for a peaceful settlement in Ukraine. As explained in the publication, it provides for the waiver of restrictions for the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the postponement of the resolution of territorial issues for the period after the ceasefire.
Russian Senator Alexei Pushkov said on November 23 that Europe wants to disrupt Trump's plan for Ukraine, and also pointed out that the counter-plan being developed by EU politicians would contain unrealistic positions. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced on November 21 that there was a shrinking space for Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky to make a decision. On the same day, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that Moscow had received a plan from Washington, which, according to him, could be used "as the basis for a final peaceful settlement."
