Proper storage of a toothbrush is important to reduce the microbial burden and the risk of transmission of infections within the family. He told the Newspaper about this on November 16.Ru" the product manager of electric brushes TROUVER Li Shenhan.

He noted that a recent study by Northwestern University (USA) showed that each toothbrush forms a unique microbial environment and can contain hundreds of viral sequences, mainly bacteriophages.

"Each toothbrush is a "microbial island" with its own, almost unique viral and bacterial flora," the expert said.

Shenhang stressed that storage conditions directly affect the activity of microbes: a bathroom with high humidity and poor ventilation is considered the most favorable environment for their reproduction. He added that the aerosol can carry microparticles on surfaces, including toothbrushes, when flushing the toilet. According to the expert, it is important to ensure good drying and minimize contact with sources of contamination.

"Store your toothbrush vertically, with the bristles facing up, in an open stand — this allows water to drain freely and the bristles to dry faster...> It is especially important to ensure that the brushes of different family members do not come into contact — this helps to avoid cross—contamination and reduces the risk of transmission of infections," he said.

The expert recommended washing the stand once a week, changing the brush every 2-3 months or after an illness, and discarding sealed cases immediately after use. He advised choosing models with a smooth surface and without hard-to-reach elements where dirt can accumulate.

Earlier, on November 12, it was reported that the medical examiner drew attention to unjustified expectations from fashionable charcoal and colored pastes, emphasizing the possible harm with frequent use and advising to choose products with fluorides and soft abrasives. According to the expert, marketing terms like "natural" or "detox" do not guarantee safety, and excessive bleaching can lead to enamel thinning and increased tooth sensitivity.
