On December 23, the Amsterdam Court of Appeal will hold a pre-trial hearing on the petition of the defense of former Spartak forward Quincy Promes for the cancellation or suspension of a preventive measure in the form of pre-trial detention. This was announced on November 14 by court spokeswoman Yetta Burleson.

"The subject of the hearing will be a motion to cancel or suspend the decision on Promes' pre—trial detention," RIA Novosti quoted her as saying.

This is the second attempt by the football player's defense to change the measure of restraint. The previous petition, considered at the end of September, was rejected by the court, the agency said. Then the court concluded that the interests of continuing the athlete's sports career did not take precedence over the public and criminal aspects of the case.

In the Netherlands, two criminal cases have been initiated against a football player. One of them was on the fact of stabbing a cousin, for which he was sentenced in absentia to 18 months in prison. The second case concerns participation in the importation of more than a ton of cocaine through the port of the Belgian city of Antwerp, a court in Amsterdam sentenced the athlete to six years in prison in absentia. On March 1, the Netherlands began discussions with the UAE authorities on Promes' extradition.

On June 12 of this year, Promes was arrested in Dubai at his home. Then he was taken to a temporary detention center. In the same month, the football player was extradited from the UAE to the Netherlands.
