Pressure is mounting in the UK government on Prime Minister Keir Starmer - ministers and MPs are demanding that he dismiss his chief of staff, Morgan McSweeney. The reason was the scandal surrounding allegations that the Prime Minister's office conducted a "preventive operation" against Health Minister Wes Streeting, The Guardian newspaper reported on November 12.

According to the newspaper's sources, the ministers accused Morgan McSweeney of organizing a campaign aimed at undermining Streeting's position, which the party considers a possible candidate for leadership. One of the cabinet members noted that the situation "had the opposite effect," as it strengthened the position of the head of the Ministry of Health.

Streeting himself, according to the newspaper, took the scandal calmly and even received the support of trade unions and some parliamentarians. On British TV channels, the minister said that what was happening was "the most unjustified attack on loyal comrades in recent years."

Starmer, in turn, refused to fire McSweeney, saying he had no intention of succumbing to pressure. A source in his entourage stressed that the prime minister "fully supports Wes Streeting" and that "none of the staff received direct briefings against him."

Earlier, on November 9, The Sunday Times reported that British Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy had warned Keir Starmer about excessively frequent trips abroad. According to the newspaper, the politician called on the head of government to focus on the internal problems of the country, noting that the prime minister did not reduce the number of visits, despite criticism.
