- Russia intends to reach an agreement on the non-use of force between Georgia and Abkhazia
Russia insists on the non-use of force between Georgia, Abkhazia and South Ossetia. This was announced on November 12 by the Russian Foreign Ministry on its website.
"The Russian side stressed the importance of developing concrete measures as soon as possible to achieve the priority goal of the MDP (International Discussions on Security and Stability in Transcaucasia. — Ed.) — ensuring the lasting security of Abkhazia and South Ossetia by adopting a legally binding agreement on the non-use of force between Georgia and these two republics," the publication says.
The report notes that such calls are being made from the outside in order to return the "breakaway regions" by military force. In addition, such steps are related to the plan to "master" this state from NATO, including conducting exercises and other military training activities of the alliance on its territory.
Earlier, on August 8, the Georgian authorities announced that they were not ready to sign a non-aggression pact with Abkhazia and South Ossetia. It was noted that Tbilisi does not plan to conduct a direct dialogue with Sukhumi and Tskhinvali, nor is it going to recognize their independence.
On June 26, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that legal guarantees were needed for the non-use of force by Georgia against Abkhazia and South Ossetia. At that time, the ministry expressed concern about the continuing risks of Georgia regaining military control over the regions.
