Medical diaries, NATO equipment, American rifles, Polish license plates, Colombian caps, German khakis, Bulgarian grenade launchers — all this and much more are found on the battlefields in the Kursk region. Some government agencies in the region have already created museums on the basis of their departments, where they presented the found trophies. Some, such as humanitarian workers, collect artifacts to transfer them to the Museum of local lore or other exhibition sites. A special correspondent of Izvestia saw what Kursk land turned out to be full of after the enemy attacked it.

NATO standards, mercenaries from overseas

There are thousands of finds and artifacts in every small settlement where the Ukrainian Armed Forces were able to enter: in dugouts, houses, plantings, and fields. Nobody cares about them (except for valuable trophies), especially in the current military fever. It is all the more important when someone tries to preserve them — for a full understanding of the picture of what is happening by both contemporaries and descendants.

The Kursk Customs Museum is one of these centers, and not by chance: employees of this service, along with border guards, were the first to come face to face with the Ukrainian military in August last year. There are already several hundred so-called exhibits here, and they continue to arrive.

First of all, the international component of the trophies attracts attention. Magazines with the 5.56 NATO cartridge, manufactured in the USA by Magpul, are one of the best samples of horns suitable for all standard submachine guns and assault rifles of the North Atlantic Alliance — from M—16 to hk-416, they are manufactured in Colorado: the Ukrainian army, due to the gradual exhaustion of Soviet weapons after 2022, switches to the 5.56 caliber.. Nearby are summer khaki caps with a chevron uniting two flags — the familiar yellow-black and yellow-blue-red Colombian: residents of this South American country are among the leaders in the number of mercenaries in various hot spots of the world, including Ukraine. The latest scandalous example is the conviction of a Colombian mercenary in the DPR on November 6 and a sentence of 13 years of strict regime.

A box for fuses for NATO shells of various calibers — from 81 to 155 mm. "Do not open until ready for use or inspection! Eight fuses, weight 10.40 kg. Packed with a desiccant," it says in English. A fragment of a Polish license plate with three preserved letters LUB is the district code in the Lublin voivodeship.

American Claymore anti-personnel mines

American guided antipersonnel mines, developed in the United States back in the 1950s, actively used during the Vietnam War, contain 700 steel balls inside such a projectile, with a range of 100 m. A used tube from a Bulgarian-made Bullspike-AT hand-held anti-tank grenade launcher (based on the Soviet model); Ukraine has been aware of the supply of these grenades since 2016, although Bulgaria has long tried to hide it.

A drone from a sewer pipe

Soviet AK submachine guns. One has a trident scratched on the receiver. The other one is burned — he was pulled out of a damaged armored vehicle. Right there, under the glass, are the documents of the owner, Andrey Koryagin, born in 1975, from Kherson. Driver's license, bank cards, photos for documents, several banknotes — 100 and 2 hryvnia. He died on trial…

A leaflet stylized like a Russian five-thousandth bill (so that they would pay attention and pick it up) with a printed QR code, calling for surrender ("If you want to live, scan it!"), these pieces of paper have to be found in different parts of the front. Hard hats wrapped with blue electrical tape. Armor plates from vests, again with instructions in English. Walkie-talkies. Backpacks. The tripwires were pegs and wire, but they hadn't been installed yet. Ukrainian dry rations packed in green bags, inside rice and pearl barley porridge with meat, pate, biscuits, sugar, coffee, total weight 1529 g. A gorilla deserves special attention — it was found in a Ukrainian armored personnel carrier. The name, nothing more or less, is "Banderivska". 0.5 liters, the place of production is Lviv.

A curious specimen turned out to be a UAV, the fuselage of which is made of a plastic sewer pipe. An example of when any improvised material is used. There are wings on the sides, a propeller on the nose, and a tail. Despite the not very presentable material, the UAV tried to reach our positions, but the Russian fighters destroyed it — there were several holes in the hull, it was shot down under the same Roof.

Ads on the mou

Kursk humanitarian Elena Boldinova from the volunteer association "We Help our People" shares her collection of artifacts — they found something themselves, and the fighters gave them something.

The advertisement, taken from the wall of a house in Sudzha, is "Uvaga! Shanovni meshkantsi zvilnenikh teritorii Sudzhi. For your lack of security at the region, the commandant Godina is waiting! I ask you not to fill your houses from 17:00 to 10:00." Translation: "Attention! Dear residents of the liberated territories of Suji. A curfew is being imposed in the region for your safety. Please do not leave your homes from 17:00 to 10:00." The time draws attention to itself — after 17:00 it is no longer possible to go outside. The phrase is "released by Suji." And, of course, the language: it was probably assumed that it was already required to speak to the residents in mov, regardless of whether they understood or not...

Products — canned buckwheat porridge "with yalovichinoyu" — beef. Kvitkoviy honey (floral) is natural. Tea — "Tripilske sun". Zukor. Sirniki bezpechni are safe matches with a Cossack from a cartoon on the package. Drawings of Ukrainian children for the military — with flags, folk costumes. Humanitarian aid boxes, one of which, for example, contained trench candles, an inscription — "zigrie your heart" (will warm your hearts). The collection of Ukrainian fairy tales is still a Soviet edition.

"Sugar" wishes

The uniform is a "jacket for a light Polish suit" (field), produced in Ukraine. The size on the tag is indicated both according to the old standards — 52-54, and according to NATO standards — 7379/0206 (173-179 cm). Another find is a khaki uniform with the German flag on the shoulder, the year of manufacture is 1997. Corsair body armor of the sixth level of protection: they were developed by Ukraine in the early 2000s for its own peacekeeping contingent in Iraq, Libya and the Balkans.

Tactical gloves with rubberized inserts on the entire surface, made in the form of repeating words — "Zbroini sili Ukraini". Trekking "scarpettes" are socks sewn in Zhytomyr, which, judging by the description, have amazing properties: "reinforced second side, moisture evaporation channels, foot support with a retainer, air circulation zone." Disposable insoles, with warnings - "do not use during sleep, in case of skin damage." The inscription on the package is "Glory to the workers of Ukraine."

The Tochka -U fragment

Photo: IZVESTIA/Sergey Prudnikov

Fragments of Tochka U missiles: they flew along the border, along Rylsk, and across Kursk itself (13 people were injured in the attack on the regional center). The letters and numbers on one of the fragments are "Chastain hardware No. 2611404014". "Robochie zoshit" (notebook) by an ensign of the Armed Forces of Ukraine named Kiyashchenko, where he writes in Ukrainian and Russian about those who have completed first aid training, about victims and their diseases, about financial expenses, including fuel, brake pads, batteries, a generator, a service station. Ensign Kiyashchenko was driving a UAZ.

Finally, disposable sugar briquettes with motivating slogans deserve special attention. "Come on, let's dance together with Ukrainian tracks", "Come on... let's not separate", "Come on... robiti ditochok" (to make children), "Come on let's dance together before Yalta".
