The European Union (EU) has decided to suspend Georgia's participation in regional security and organized crime projects. This was confirmed on November 7 by a letter from the EU Ambassador to Georgia, Pavel Gerchinsky, which was sent to the country's Foreign Ministry.

"Taking into account the special circumstances faced by Georgia, and in accordance with the conclusions of the European Council of June 27, 2024, which led to the de facto suspension of the process of its accession to the EU, we would like to inform you that the country's participation in EU-funded regional projects in the field of security and organized crime has been suspended," the TV channel reports "Rustavi 2" text of the letter.

Gerchinsky clarified that these are three projects — combating organized crime in the Eastern Partnership with the support of Europol, cooperation in combating organized crime (TOPCOP II) and the EU Drug Monitoring project (EU4MD II). The EU decision became effective on October 15 and concerns representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Justice of Georgia.

On November 1, the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili, announced that the parliament had decided to stop participating in the meetings of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly due to unfair treatment of the republic. The European Parliament has turned the Euronest platform into "an instrument of blackmail and a means of forcibly imposing its narrow political agenda on neighboring countries," and the assembly's disregard for the will of the Georgian people is "categorically unacceptable," the speaker stressed.

Papuashvili later announced that Georgia had suspended work in the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly and noted that the latest resolutions adopted by the Assembly in Yerevan on the alleged "rigging" of the 2024 parliamentary elections contain "unacceptable and outrageous language."
