Russia imported a record number of used cars per month in 25 years

In October, 59.9 thousand used cars were imported to Russia. This is a record figure for the entire history of import monitoring, that is, for the last at least 25 years, the analytical agency Autostat reported on November 6.

It is noted that imports of used passenger cars in October increased by 55% compared to a year ago and by 24% compared to September of this year.

Analysts explained this result with the information noise that has developed around the upcoming change in the mechanism for calculating the recycling fee. Importers are trying to import as many cars as possible before this event, which has been postponed to December 1, experts said.

Toyota became the most popular car brand in the structure of used car imports in October, and among the models — Honda Freed. Japan is still the leader among the importing countries of used passenger cars in Russia, but its share is gradually falling and in October it amounted to 35.3%. South Korea ranks second (23%), and China ranks third (17.6%). Georgia (10.2%) and Belarus (6.1%) rounded out the top five.
