A severe magnetic storm will not affect the well-being of most Russians, but it may cause an aurora in atypical latitudes. This was announced by Nathan Eismont, a leading researcher at the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, on Thursday, November 6.

"With a strong storm, the aurora borealis may appear even at latitudes far from the poles, for example, at the latitude of Moscow or even Sochi, as last year. Strong magnetic storms can affect the operation of GPS, GLONASS or Galileo navigation satellites," the scientist said in an interview with NSN.

He specified that magnetic storms occur after the release in 1-3 days, depending on the speed of the plasma release. At the same time, people who feel uncomfortable know about it in advance and take medications.

In turn, Professor of the Institute of Space Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), Doctor of Physico-Mathematical Sciences Sergey Bogachev said in an interview with the Moscow City News agency that due to magnetic storms occurring on Earth, residents of the capital region will have a chance to see the Aurora borealis on November 6-7.

Earlier that day, Mikhail Leus, a leading specialist at the Phobos weather center, reported that a low-intensity, G1-class magnetic storm had begun on Earth, RT reports.

According to the forecaster, geomagnetic disturbances will continue to be felt all day on November 6 with periodic storms of weak and medium levels. Peak activity is expected on Friday, when solar flare emissions approach the Earth, according to the website. kp.ru . On this day, the storm may reach G3 strength, and at some points even G4.

The weakening of geomagnetic disturbances will begin on the night of November 8, and the situation should return to normal on November 9, IA Regnum reports.

Earlier, on October 30, it was reported about the fourth magnetic storm in a month. Its power was estimated as G1. At the same time, the area of the aurora borealis increased significantly, which dropped to the latitudes of Moscow.
