- Ambassador Gonchar pointed out that the Russian Federation has no interests or reasons to launch UAVs in Belgium.
Russia is not involved in the launch of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in Belgium — it has no interests or reasons for this. Denis Gonchar, the Russian Ambassador to Belgium, said this on November 5.
"The Russian Federation has nothing to do with the flights of unmanned aerial vehicles in the airspace of Belgium. We have no reasons or interests for this," TASS quoted him as saying to the VRT TV channel.
Gonchar also stressed that in the current situation, it would be right not to "incite passions", but to establish a dialogue through relevant departments, to which the Russian side is ready.
The Reuters news agency reported the closure of Brussels International Airport a day earlier after reports of drones. It was noted that drones were also detected at the American military base Kleine-Brogel, located near the city of Per. On November 5, Belgian Defense Minister Theo Franken announced his country's intention to activate Article 4 of the Washington Treaty of NATO in the near future, which implies security consultations with the countries of the bloc.
