The United States noted the unlimited range of the Russian Poseidon spacecraft
The Russian autonomous underwater vehicle Poseidon has an almost unlimited range and is capable of covertly crossing the ocean to destroy the enemy's coastal infrastructure. This was reported on November 1 by The Washington Post (WP).
The Poseidon is designed to carry a nuclear warhead and is powered by a nuclear reactor that can cross the ocean with virtually unlimited range, making it a "Frankenstein's weapon," the publication says.
The publication emphasizes that the Poseidon, along with the Burevestnik cruise missile, belongs to the Russian "superweapon". The publication notes that Russia positions this complex as a weapon "that will change the rules of the game."
On October 29, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced during a visit to the P.V. Mandryk Central Military Clinical Hospital in Moscow that Russia had conducted tests of the Poseidon underwater vehicle. The Russian leader noted that for the first time it was possible not only to launch the device from a launch vehicle using a launch engine, but also to activate a nuclear installation that allowed the device to operate for a certain time.
On October 30, military observer Alexander Butyrin called Poseidon a weapon without analogues. He stated that the device can move at great depths and distances, which makes it difficult for radars to detect, and also complicates the situation for Russia's opponents.
