Carbon glow: the green agenda has faded into the background in the USA
Bill Gates has published a 17-page essay in which he discusses the current focus of the environmental course in the United States. The Microsoft co-founder believes that the focus should be on human well-being, rather than, for example, rising temperatures or melting glaciers. At the same time, the businessman calls on the current US president to invest again in the Agency for International Development (USAID), which Donald Trump actually dissolved back in February. Why Gates abruptly changed his mind about the green agenda, what will happen to America due to deviations from the environmental course and what the "color revolutions" have to do with it — in the Izvestia article.
Bill Gates is changing the environmental course: what happened
US President Donald Trump has declared that he has won the "war on climate change deception." This happened after Bill Gates, a philanthropist and one of the main proponents of global carbon reduction, published a 17-page essay "Three Difficult Truths about Climate," where he revised his approach to ecology. In a document published on the Gates Notes platform, the Microsoft co-founder said that the focus of the green agenda needs to be shifted towards "human well-being." The work has been released for the upcoming UN Climate Change Conference (COP 30), which will be held in mid-November and will be held in Brazil.
According to the businessman, the main goal now is to prevent the suffering of people living in the most difficult conditions and the poorest countries in the world. "We must measure success not only by reducing emissions, but also by how much less people suffer," the entrepreneur writes. Gates also said that his venture capital company Breakthrough Energy, which has invested more than $2 billion in climate technology, will now give preference to projects that improve living standards in developing countries.
Previously, the former Microsoft CEO talked a lot about the "imminent eco-apocalypse," but now his opinion has changed. According to the Associated Press news agency, if an entrepreneur were offered a choice between eradicating malaria and raising the temperature by one tenth of a degree, he would choose the first option. "I will allow the temperature to rise by 0.1 degrees to get rid of malaria. People don't understand the suffering that exists today," Gates told reporters at a round table before the release of the essay.
The entrepreneur believes that the fight against climate change should not undermine the development of poor countries. He cites a low-income state as an example. It banned the use of synthetic fertilizers in agriculture in 2021. From the context, it becomes clear that the businessman is referring to Sri Lanka, which was forced to change its "opt-out policy" in order to stabilize the economic situation.
The green industry has been losing ground recently: construction of new wind turbines and solar panels has stopped. In the northeastern United States, which has focused on clean energy, the cost of electricity has begun to rise sharply. This happened against the background of the closure of old stations and the construction of new data centers for AI.
Malek Dudakov, an American political scientist, noted that the economic situation in the United States began to deteriorate even before the election of Donald Trump. The inflow of capital into funds dealing with environmental, social and corporate governance has fallen 13 times in four years, so the Democrats are trying to save the day and abandon the toxic green agenda.
"At the same time, the green economy bubble is bursting before our eyes. Capital inflows into ESG funds have fallen from $650 billion at its peak in 2021 to $50 billion in 2024. And this also happened before the election of Trump, who cut green subsidies. Then, as expected, the collapse of many green industries across America followed, which would not last without subsidies. And oligarchs like Gates have already figured out where the wind is blowing. And they fix losses on time, dumping green assets that have become toxic," the expert wrote on the Telegram channel.
Democrats, Gates, USAID
Investments in the environmental agenda must continue. According to the Microsoft co—founder, the US president's reduction in funding for USAID programs is a serious problem that prevents the spread of hunger and diseases dangerous to humanity. This issue requires an immediate and greater focus on resources to support these neglected efforts. "Although climate change will have serious consequences, especially for the inhabitants of the poorest countries, it will not lead to the death of humanity," the text of the essay says.
In February, Donald Trump's cabinet sent employees of the United States Agency for International Development on indefinite leave. The main objectives of the organization were humanitarian and social projects in developing countries in the fields of agriculture, education, health, environmental protection, as well as "the promotion of democracy and the protection of human rights around the world."
According to Vladimir Vasiliev, chief researcher at the Institute of the USA and Canada, USAID is an excellent tool for Democrats, with which they carry out all sorts of financial fraud.
— The Democratic Party is actively demanding money from sponsors. In the end, it turned out that USAID was a money laundering operation. The "donkeys" used the Agency for International Development because that's where the money went for humanitarian aid to developing countries. <...> It is indeed a "fund" for organizing "color revolutions" and implementing projects in which the Democrats themselves were interested. For example, support for Africa: here it warmed the soul of African-American voters inside the United States. Also Hungary, Ukraine and so on. After all, regime change is also money, and an agency like USAID is needed for it," the expert concluded.
Currently, many influential American families, including the Gates and Soros, are very actively investing in a new "color revolution", this time in the United States.
Recently, a wave of protests called No Kings swept the United States. Shortly after they began, it became clear that these protests were funded by liberal NGOs united by the name Arabella Network. In turn, this organization exists with funds from Soros, Ford, Rockefeller and other organizations supporting the Democratic Party of the USA.
Deviation from the environmental course in the USA: forecasts
The curtailment of the green agenda in the United States is due to many factors. According to experts, Trump is primarily lobbying for the interests of coal and oil and gas companies, without hiding his critical attitude towards alternative energy. This is also affected by the lack of lithium production in the state and insufficient production of copper and rare earth metals, which have to be imported from different countries.
Vladimir Vasiliev told Izvestia that every time Democrats and Republicans play out the same scenario: "donkeys" clean up nature, offer all kinds of solutions to climate and other problems, since this is one of the main vectors of the party, and "elephants", on the contrary, "pollute" this environment by investing in "classical" energy.
— This is such an endless "game" of the green agenda. Today, there is another specific feature of American business. It is focused on making a quick profit in a short time. In this regard, the environment requires a different "horizon" of decision—making, since it cannot give a lot of money in a short amount of time, the expert states.
Deviation from the environmental course in the United States can greatly affect the state's economy. The suspension of the construction of new wind and solar power plants, according to experts, will lead to an increase in the cost of electricity for the population and enterprises. In the United States, too much effort has already been devoted to strengthening the green agenda, which the population did not immediately accept, to abandon this idea so easily now. Although, it is quite possible that the interested parties have other goals, which required such huge amounts of capital.
