The Russian Foreign Ministry announced its readiness to start negotiations with the United States on the non-deployment of weapons in outer space.

Moscow is ready to offer Washington to sit down at the negotiating table to work out a comprehensive document on preventing an arms race in outer space, but the United States is slowing down their start. This was announced on October 27 by Konstantin Vorontsov, Deputy head of the Russian delegation, at a meeting of the First Committee of the UN General Assembly.

"We are ready to once again invite the United States to sit down at the negotiating table and begin these negotiations on a comprehensive legally binding instrument to prevent an arms race in outer space, including preventing the deployment of weapons in outer space. However, it is the United States of America that is blocking these negotiations and preventing them from starting," TASS quoted the diplomat as saying.

Vorontsov added that Moscow had also not received any comments from the American delegation on the Golden Dome system for America, "which provides for the launch of weapons into space." According to him, Russia believes that the US development of the specified missile defense system with orbital interceptors could provoke an arms race in space.

At the same time, the issue of reducing nuclear weapons intensifies the differences between Republicans and Democrats.

On October 22, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov warned of the risk of a clash of nuclear powers due to NATO policy. The deputy minister noted that the West continues to implement destabilizing programs, including the development of joint nuclear mission schemes, the expansion of the US nuclear presence in Europe and the creation of a global missile defense system. Ryabkov also pointed to the plans of the United States and its allies to launch weapons into space.

In May, US President Donald Trump said that the "Golden Dome" is necessary for the United States to survive. According to Trump, the country's administration plans to allocate about $175 billion for it.
