The forecast for November 2025 for Moscow promises abnormal and unfavorable weather conditions, which can cause a lot of inconvenience to residents of the capital. Meteorologists warn of sudden temperature changes, frequent rains and cloudy days, which will make the weather especially changeable. Temperatures are expected to fluctuate during the month, and precipitation may become a common occurrence. What surprises you should prepare for is in the Izvestia article.

Positive temperature anomaly

According to forecasts reviewed by Izvestia, warm weather will remain in Moscow until mid-November, due to the arrival of air masses from the West. This will lead to no snow and keep temperatures above normal, so Muscovites can enjoy unusually warm weather in early November, but it's worth being prepared for possible changes at the end of the month.

According to forecasts by Tatiana Pozdnyakova, a leading specialist at the Meteonosti news agency, for Izvestia, November 2025 in Moscow, according to nine long-term forecast models, will be held with a positive air temperature anomaly. All models predict an increase in temperatures by 1-1.5 degrees above the climatic norm. Tatiana Pozdnyakova argues that the probability that November will be warmer than usual values is high.

Are heavy precipitation expected in November

Weather forecasters warned Izvestia about possible sudden temperature changes, heavy precipitation and other weather anomalies that could affect the climatic conditions of the region. It is also possible that precipitation will take a mixed form during the holidays, turning into sleet and rain. She stressed that so far, long-term models provide just such a development of atmospheric events.

As for precipitation, heavy rains are not typical for the cold period, but significant rains are expected, especially on October 31.

Will there be frost and thaw in November

Regarding frosts in November, Tatiana Pozdnyakova stressed that frosts at night do not always mean the onset of winter.

— They say about the thaw when we have consistently negative temperatures throughout the day, and then they turn into a positive value, so a thaw is not an autumn option. Low temperature hours are also not frosts, it's just a light frost," Pozdnyakova told Izvestia.

Experts note that the autumn version of the thaw is not expected in November, but light frosts are possible in the middle of the month, especially at night, which is fully consistent with climatic standards. Pozdnyakova clarified that it is in these numbers that the average daily air temperature becomes negative, however, given the forecast that November will be slightly warmer than usual, it can be assumed that the night air temperature will decrease closer to October 15th.

The temperature is expected to be above normal at the beginning of the month, but cold spells and night frosts are possible by mid-November. According to the forecast of the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia, precipitation in the form of rain and sleet, as well as ice, is possible in Moscow in November, especially at night.

According to Izvestia, in November, in any case, Muscovites should expect changeable weather: from warm days to cold nights with possible precipitation and ice.

Steady snow cover in November

Often, stable snow cover in Moscow usually forms at the end of November. According to forecasters, in 2025, the meteorological winter in the capital will begin in the second half of November, with the formation of stable snow cover at the end of the calendar autumn. However, according to experts, in early November, snowfalls, if any, will not lead to the formation of a stable snow cover, as precipitation will melt when it reaches the ground. According to their observations, stable snow cover in Moscow this month is an extremely rare phenomenon.

It is very rare when a stable snow cover is formed. As a rule, this happens in the very last days of November. Snow falls, stays, and then practically disappears. This is due to the fact that winters have become warmer than in the last century. Stable snow cover will be formed only in December, based on the available forecasts.

When will the cold invasion of Moscow begin

A cold invasion of Moscow in November 2025 is expected as a result of the effects of several cyclones, which will bring cold Arctic air masses to the capital. As Izvestia found out, in the period from November 8 to November 11, the air temperature in Moscow may drop to -1...4 °C at night and 2 ... 7 °C during the day, which will lead to the destruction of the snow cover.

As for the beginning of the cold invasion, Tatiana Pozdnyakova clarified that atmospheric cyclones, which determine the weather, do not allow predicting the long-term presence of cold air.

— It cannot be said that cold air has invaded us, and it will "stand" all winter. So far, Atlantic cyclones are determining the weather, and we are under their influence — one comes to us, then we can expect significant air penetration into our latitudes, and then the Atlantic cyclone quickly comes to replace it - there is no such thing. But when one cyclone leaves us, and a ridge of high pressure forms after it, then only then can we wait for the invasion of cold air to really begin. So far, this situation has not been traced," Pozdnyakova explained.

However, a short-term cooling is possible during the upcoming holidays, when a "rear" is formed between successive Atlantic cyclones, because some models produce precipitation not only in the form of rain, but also sleet. According to Pozdnyakova, it is possible that this will happen during the holidays.

How Muscovites prepare for the cold weather

A good solution would be to purchase waterproof clothing and shoes that will protect you from moisture. At the same time, it must be stable and non-slip to avoid falling on slippery surfaces. In addition, it is recommended to dress in layers in order to easily adapt to temperature fluctuations during the day, especially in the morning and evening hours, when temperatures can drop sharply.

It is important to check the condition of the car in advance if you plan to travel by car. In bad weather, roads can become slippery and congestion can become frequent. You should also bring an umbrella and rain protectors before going outside. Be careful when crossing, especially if snow and rain can create ice on the sidewalks.

Unstable weather conditions can negatively affect well-being, especially in people with chronic diseases. In this case, it is necessary to drink more warm drinks, monitor the humidity level in the room and avoid hypothermia — all this will help maintain good health during sudden weather changes.
