US sanctions against Russia's energy sector may have a negative impact on a number of European Union (EU) countries. This was announced on October 27 at a briefing by the representative of the European Commission (EC) Anna-Kaisa Itkonen.

"It is obvious that these sanctions can have a negative impact, and we are in constant contact with our countries to make sure that we can avoid such an impact," Itkonen said.

According to her, at the moment, the EU does not see the negative impact of these restrictions.

On October 22, the US Treasury Department announced the imposition of sanctions against Russian oil companies Rosneft and Lukoil. After that, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called the new restrictive measures against oil companies counterproductive. She stressed that the sanctions would not create significant problems for the Russian Federation.

Later, on October 26, the American leader Donald Trump did not deny the possibility of imposing additional sanctions against Russia.
