- Dmitriev, the head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, spoke about the discussions on the tunnel project between the Russian Federation and the United States
Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) and special presidential envoy for investment and economic cooperation with foreign countries, announced on October 26 that the possibility of building a tunnel between Russia and Alaska was being discussed.
"The documents on the Kennedy assassination, which, by the way, mention the so—called Kennedy and Khrushchev peace bridge between Russia and Alaska, which, by the way, is a topic that is currently being discussed, as well as the idea of connecting Russia and Alaska through a tunnel," Dmitriev said at a meeting with a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from The Republican Party by Anna Paulina Luna.
However, he did not disclose the details of the project.
On October 23, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova recalled that the idea of building a tunnel between Russia and the United States had its development even at the end of the 19th century. She noted that for the first time such an idea was voiced at the beginning of the twentieth century. She clarified that later this idea was recalled as a possible symbol that could make it possible to establish relations between the USSR and the United States.
On October 17, US President Donald Trump, during a meeting with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, noted that the idea of creating a tunnel between Russia and Alaska was interesting. The Ukrainian leader also stated that he did not like such an initiative.
