Lavrov called the calls for a ceasefire in Ukraine an attempt to gain time.
Calls for a cease—fire are an attempt to buy time again. On October 26, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov gave a corresponding assessment of the situation around the negotiation process in Ukraine in an interview with the Ultrahang YouTube channel.
Lavrov said that a number of agreements, including the Minsk agreements, were actually blocked by external factors, which, in his opinion, ruled out the possibility of a peaceful settlement within the previous framework. The Russian Foreign Minister recalled that back in April 2022, the then British Prime Minister Boris Johnson came and forbade Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky to sign the agreement worked out in Istanbul because this friend sold weapons to Ukraine, after which the Ukrainian side refused to negotiate with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
"Since then, they have been saying that there will be no negotiations with Putin <...>, that they want European soldiers and no truce. Zelensky said all this just a year ago. And then, in September of this year, he declared that Putin would never get an inch of land. This will never happen. It's not a solution, it's just a pause. And Russia's isolation must remain forever, so when there are calls for a cease-fire now, we understand that in fact they just want to buy time again. And this logic, deeply rooted in Zelensky's head and mind, is absolutely obvious to any objective observer," Lavrov said.
Earlier, on October 24, it was reported that Kirill Dmitriev, the special representative of the President of Russia for investment and economic cooperation with foreign countries, is on a visit to the United States.
On October 25, Dmitriev announced that Moscow, Washington and Kiev were close to reaching a final diplomatic settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. According to him, a cease-fire will not solve the problem.
Later, on October 26, the special representative of the Russian leader said that Russia sees titanic efforts to disrupt the dialogue with the United States. He also noted that only constructive dialogue will help resolve the conflict.
