The new US sanctions initiatives against Russia will not achieve their goals, as Moscow and Beijing have prepared in advance for such a development. This was stated by political analyst Ivan Mezyuho in an interview with Izvestia on October 23.

According to him, over more than 11 years of sanctions pressure, Russia has learned not only to circumvent restrictions, but also to build relations with foreign economic partners in such a way as not to expose them to illegal restrictions.

The expert described the US actions as a violation of international law, stressing that the only legal sanctions are measures approved by the UN Security Council. Mezyuho noted that the American administration shows disregard for international institutions.

"America, in its characteristic manner, is trying to exert pressure in order to tame Russia and establish some point in the Ukrainian conflict without taking into account the strategic interests of the Russian state. This is a flawed and ineffective policy... As I said, I think both Moscow and Beijing were ready for such a scenario. First, the economy of the People's Republic of China will inevitably become the number one economy. And secondly, it will not destroy the strategic relations between Russia and China," the political scientist noted.

On the same day, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Moscow considers the new US restrictive measures against Russian oil companies to be counterproductive. However, she stressed that the new sanctions would not create significant problems for Russia.
