The attackers damaged more than 40 graves at an Islamic cemetery in the German city of Essen. This was reported by Der Spiegel magazine on October 20, citing local police.
According to law enforcement agencies, gravestones were overturned at the cemetery, signs, lanterns and tombstone plants were destroyed, and footprints were found on the graves.
The publication noted that at the moment, no evidence has been found that would help identify possible suspects. The Commission on Islam and Mosques in Essen, representing 22 Islamic communities, also expressed its outrage and called for strengthening the permanent protection of the cemetery at night.
The Daily Mail newspaper reported on April 14 that the British police had launched an investigation into the desecration of at least 85 Muslim graves. According to the newspaper, this incident occurred in the Muslim part of the cemetery in Watford, as a result of an act of vandalism, dozens of tombstones were destroyed. As the newspaper notes, many of the graves belong to children.
