The White House talked about cooperation between the United States and Australia
The United States and Australia intend to jointly invest over $3 billion in projects on critical minerals in the next six months. This was reported on the White House website on October 20.
"The U.S. and Australian governments intend to jointly invest more than $3 billion in critical minerals projects over the next six months, with recoverable resources estimated at $53 billion," the statement said.
Australian pension funds will increase their investments in the United States by $1 trillion by 2035. In addition, Australia has agreed to purchase $1.2 billion worth of Anduril unmanned underwater vehicles and take delivery of the first batch of Apache helicopters in a separate deal worth $2.6 billion.
Since February, Australia has allocated $1 billion to the US government to expand and modernize the American submarine production base. It is planned to allocate another $1 billion by the end of this year.
The White House added that Australia is also investing heavily in its integrated air and missile defense capabilities, in particular, $2 billion in American companies for its integrated control system.
The United States Department of Defense will also finance the construction of a gallium processing plant with a capacity of 100 tons per year in Western Australia. According to the White House, such a decision "will further enhance the country's self-sufficiency in processing the most important minerals."
On the same day, US President Donald Trump announced that Washington and Canberra intend to conclude an agreement on the supply of critically important minerals and rare earths, as well as discuss trade and defense cooperation. It is noted that 10 minutes later, the American leader and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese signed the agreement.
