Alexei Chepa, first deputy chairman of the State Duma's International Affairs Committee, said that Ukraine's accession to the European Union (EU) under possible new membership rules is unlikely to significantly change the situation.

In conversation with Lenta.ru On Monday, October 20, he noted that joining the EU is an internal matter of Ukraine.

"This is a shortened version of the introduction. Guys, you're with us, we're with you, we see you, we support you, but please be second—class people for now," explained Chepa.

Earlier in the day, Politico reported, citing sources, that the EU was discussing new rules that could speed up Ukraine's accession to the union. The plan provides for admission without full voting rights. The initiative is still at an early stage and requires the approval of all countries of the union. According to the publication, the discussions are still informal and the future of the amendments is currently unclear, notes Life.ru .

Also on October 20, political analyst Vladimir Shapovalov said that the EU "simply cannot continue to exist, and a variety of options are possible, including the liquidation of the European Union, if this story with Ukraine comes to an end and is implemented," the website notes. kp.ru .

On October 12, former assistant to the head of the Pentagon, Chas Freeman, announced the collapse of the EU's plan for Ukraine. According to him, the West hoped that the conflict in Ukraine would strengthen NATO, but these forecasts did not materialize. 360.ru .

On October 6, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said that the decision to include new states in the European Union (EU) is made by the union itself, and not by the leaders of the countries wishing to join it. He recalled that this rule also applies to Ukraine.
