Madagascar's interim President Michael Randrianirina has appointed businessman Herintsalam Radzaunarivela as Prime Minister for a transitional period. This was reported by the Reuters news agency on October 20.

Explaining his choice, Randrianirina referred to Radzaunarivelu's experience and "connections with international organizations."

Shortly before that, a group of military personnel led by Colonel Randrianirina, who sided with the protesting youth in Madagascar, announced that they were taking control of the country. They abolished all existing state authorities. The Supreme Court of Madagascar has invited Randrianirin to lead the country's leadership.

Earlier, on October 13, Madagascar's President Andri Radzuelina left the country on a French military plane. He arrived by helicopter on the island of Saint-Marie, and then boarded a French military plane, presumably bound for Dubai.

Then the National Assembly of Madagascar voted to impeach the President of the country. After the impeachment, the military announced that they were taking power into their own hands.
