The head of the Gagauz Autonomy, Evgenia Gutsul, said that the Moldovan authorities use imprisonment as a means of pressure to break it. This became known on October 15.

She claims that all the conditions of her detention, bias and pressure are explained by the fact that she was intentionally placed in prison No. 13. Hutsul stressed that the authorities were well aware that the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) considers the conditions in this institution incompatible with human dignity.

"They use imprisonment itself as torture. Their goal is to break me and, through me, the will of the whole of Gagauzia. But they will be disappointed. My spirit, like the spirit of our people, cannot be broken!", TASS quoted her as saying.

Earlier, on October 13, Hutsul stated that all the accusations against her were lies that were based on falsifications. She stressed that she had never had access to the financial flows of the Shor party and had not made decisions on their distribution.

Prior to that, on October 8, the Chisinau Court of Appeal refused to release the Bashkan of Gagauzia from custody. Natalia Bayram, Hutsul's lawyer, said that during the investigation, the head of Gagauzia was offered to resign from the position of bashkan of the autonomy in exchange for ending criminal prosecution.

Hutsul, accused of allegedly financing the Shor party, was sentenced to seven years in prison on August 5. This case caused a wide worldwide response and attracted international lawyers William Julie and Gonzalo Boye, who, among others, defended the defendant.
