In September 2025, the average cost of a used car (no older than 15 years) in the Russian market accelerated its decline against the background of an oversupply and dropped to the level of the end of 2023. <url> Assessment experts told Izvestia about this on October 14.

The average price of used cars of Chinese brands in September was 2.08 million rubles, which is 1.5% lower than in August. Over the year, the decrease amounted to almost 150 thousand rubles. In the group of European, Japanese and Korean brands, the decrease in the average price in September was 1.5% (2.25 million rubles), and in annual terms the drop has already reached 9% — the highest value among all brands. The average cost of a car of Russian brands dropped to almost 690 thousand rubles, having lost more than 8.5 thousand rubles in a month. The last time similar values were observed was in November 2023, experts noted.

"Against the background of possible changes in the recycling fee rate, which may also affect the used car segment, buyer activity increased markedly in September. Compared to August, ad views jumped by almost 18%. At the same time, many sellers still overestimate the expected cost of selling their cars, and high loan rates limit the number of potential transactions," the analysts said.

The largest drop in the average cost in September among used models was shown by the Kia Rio fourth generation (-5%; 1.47 million rubles), Mini Hatch F55 (-4%; 2.55 million rubles) and Volkswagen Passat B6 (-3.4%; 781 thousand rubles). The average price of three models increased by more than 2%: the fresh Haval F7 (2.5%; 2.08 million rubles), Geely Coolray (2.5%; 2.32 million rubles) and the domestic UAZ Hunter (2.3%; 748 thousand rubles).

In 16 regions of the Russian Federation, a significant decrease in the average cost of a used car was recorded in September. In the Arkhangelsk Region, the average price dropped by 11% over the month, to 1.14 million rubles. Irkutsk (1.97 million rubles) and Vladimir (1.07 million rubles) regions are in second and third place, with a 4% reduction in the average cost. In St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region, the price dropped to 1.98 million rubles, which dropped to third place among all regions in terms of average cost. Only the Moscow region (-2%; 2.65 million rubles) and the Novosibirsk Region (-0.4%; 2 million rubles) remained ahead, experts estimated.

Before that, on October 7, it became known that in the third quarter of 2025, the average price of a new car in Russia decreased by 3% compared to January –March and amounted to 2.83 million rubles. Experts noted that the prerequisites for a smooth increase in demand were a moderate reduction in the key rate, as well as discounts and special offers from dealers who sell off the accumulated remnants of last year.
