Earth may fall under the influence of a coronal hole on October 12.
Earth is likely to be impacted by a coronal hole in the Sun on Sunday, October 12, resulting in weak magnetic storms. This was announced on October 10 at the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy at the Institute of Space Research (IKI) of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
"Another coronal hole worth mentioning is currently formed on the Sun and, apparently, will begin to affect the Earth somewhat earlier than the previous forecast, starting on Sunday afternoon," the laboratory said in a Telegram channel.
It is specified that the hole is located on the solar equator, which guarantees its impact on our planet. The scientists added that the influence of the solar wind will continue for about two days, until Tuesday.
Earlier, on October 4, the head of the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy at the Institute of Space Research (IKI) RAS Sergey Bogachev said that one of the longest magnetic storms of the current solar cycle has ended. He noted that this was evidenced by the readings of ground-based magnetometers and measurements of the solar wind.
