The meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) was productive. This was announced on October 9 by the Secretary General of the CIS Sergey Lebedev.

"This is the second meeting of the Foreign Ministry under the chairmanship of the Republic of Tajikistan, both meetings <...> were very productive, traditionally in an atmosphere of trust, friendship and mutual understanding. And this is encouraging," Lebedev told TASS.

He also noted that the CIS foreign ministers had approved 15 documents, which would be discussed on October 10 by the heads of the CIS member states. He added that the idea that the CIS has ordered a long life has nothing to do with reality. According to him, the CIS member states are showing economic growth, and sanctions cannot destroy their cooperation.

Earlier, on September 30, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said that Russia should play a central role in the development of the CIS and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). He said that the Russian Federation should "be on the main plan" in order to "glue, unite, and prevent the main union from falling apart at this time."

On August 29, Russian President Vladimir Putin, at an operational meeting of the Russian Security Council, called work in the CIS area one of the most important areas of Russian policy. At the meeting, the Russian leader suggested discussing the topic of working with some CIS countries, as well as considering the immediate goals in this area for Russia.
