Western Australian police have seized weapons and suspended or revoked licenses to carry them from dozens of residents, whom the investigation suspects of holding views that reject the power of the state. This was reported on October 6 by The Independent newspaper.

According to officials, these seizures followed an armed attack on police officers in August 2025 in Victoria, which resulted in the death of two police officers. The shooter turned out to be 56-year-old Desi Freeman, who adheres to the so-called "sovereign citizen" views that reject the authority of the state.

According to State Police Commissioner Colonel Blanche, in late September and early October, police visited 70 properties, seized 135 firearms and suspended or revoked 44 licenses to carry weapons.

"If you have made it clear that you do not comply with the laws of Western Australia established by parliament, then you cannot be a decent person," said Blanche.

It clarifies that the members of the "sovereign citizen" movement reject the legitimate authority of the government and use various fictitious legal bases for this.

On October 2, mass protests took place in Paris against the government's budget policy. According to the police, the number of protesters amounted to 20 thousand people. About 5,000 police officers were mobilized to protect order in the capital.
