Flights were suspended at Vilnius airport due to balloons
Air traffic was temporarily suspended at Vilnius Airport due to the appearance of foreign objects in the air, presumably balloons. This was announced on October 5 by the press service of Aviagavan on the Facebook social network (owned by Meta, whose activities are recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).
"According to our information, this decision was made in connection with a possible series of balloons heading towards Vilnius Airport," the statement said.
It is specified that flights were suspended at 22:16 (local time, coincides with Moscow time). As a result, some flights were diverted to Kaunas, Riga and Gdansk airlines. Also, the flight from Copenhagen returned to the departure airport, and the flight from Vilnius to Helsinki was canceled.
It is noted that other flights may also be delayed or cancelled in the future.
On October 2, Munich airport was closed due to unidentified unmanned aerial vehicles in the airspace, as a result of which about 20 flights were canceled. The exact number of UAVs has not been established. It was clarified that the police had started monitoring.
Later, on October 4, Munich Airport began to reopen after the drone incident. It was also noted that there may be delays in the operation of the airline during the day.
