The possible conduct of a no-fly zone by NATO forces over the territory of Ukraine could lead to a direct clash between the alliance and Russia and the outbreak of World War III. Ted Carpenter, editor of The American Conservative (TAC) magazine, senior researcher at the Randolph Born Institute and senior researcher at the Libertarian Institute, warned about this on October 4.

"NATO leaders and their supporters in the media are responding to rising tensions by reviving the idea...> the introduction of a no-fly zone over [Ukraine]. This is an extremely provocative and dangerous plan that carries a serious risk of unleashing a third world war," the publication says.

It is noted that the President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, appealed to NATO with a corresponding request back in 2022. At the same time, the 46th President of the United States, Joe Biden, rejected this idea. The foreign ministers of other countries participating in the military bloc also did not support the initiative.

"Even the majority of hardliners in the West considered this step too dangerous, as it would lead to direct clashes between NATO and Russian aircraft," the author of the article explained.

On September 30, The Telegraph newspaper reported that European officials and the military were discussing the possibility of deploying air defense systems and creating a no-fly zone over western Ukraine with the prospect of extending this zone to Kiev.

On April 30, Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu said that Western military units, if deployed in Ukraine, would become legitimate targets for the Russian Armed Forces. According to him, such actions will indicate preparations for the occupation of the western part of Ukraine by European countries.
