Erdogan and Trump discussed settlement in Gaza by phone
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held telephone talks with his American counterpart Donald Trump, during which the politicians discussed the situation in the Gaza Strip. This was reported on October 3 by TRT Haber TV channel with reference to the office of the Turkish leader.
"Erdogan had a telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump today at the latter's request. During the conversation, bilateral relations between Turkey and the United States, as well as the situation in Gaza, were discussed," the publication says.
During the talks, Erdogan noted that his visit to Washington on September 25 had contributed to strengthening relations between Turkey and the United States, and it was important to continue cooperation in all areas in the future. He stressed that Ankara is making intensive efforts to ensure peace and tranquility in the Middle East.
"Erdogan stressed that Turkey has accelerated diplomatic contacts in order to achieve peace, will continue to contribute to the global concept of peace, and that stopping attacks by Israel is essential for the success of peace initiatives in the region," the office said.
Earlier, on September 22, Erdogan said that during negotiations with Trump he would raise the issue of acquiring American F-35 and F-16 fighter jets. He clarified that the discussions will focus not only on the potential supply, but also on the possible production and maintenance of these models. The Turkish president added that he maintains "active contacts" with the administration of the head of the White House on the settlement of conflicts in Ukraine and the Gaza Strip.
After that, on September 25, Trump announced that Turkey could "easily" obtain US consent to supply F-35 fighter jets by satisfying a specific request from Washington. In turn, Russian President Vladimir Putin, during the plenary session of the XXII annual meeting of the Valdai International Discussion Club on October 2, noted that Russia was ready to support President Trump's plan to resolve the situation in the Gaza Strip.
