Romania refused to shoot down drones over Ukraine

Romania will not shoot down drones in its border area if they are located on the territory of Ukraine. This was announced on October 2 by the country's Defense Minister Ionuts Mostianu during a press conference with journalists.

"At the moment, their (UAVs) are over Ukraine. — Ed.) it is impossible to shoot down. The allies have decided that NATO should not interfere outside the borders of the alliance and should not invade the airspace of Ukraine," RIA Novosti quoted Mostianu as saying.

According to him, there is a fine line between helping another country in a conflict and becoming a full-fledged participant in it.

Boundary condition: The "drone wall" will cost the EU €3-7 billion.

The costly project, approved by Brussels, will impose an "unbearable debt" on the countries of the association, the European Parliament warned.

On September 19, Norbert Roettgen, a deputy from the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), a member of the ruling coalition of Germany, announced the need to create a "wall of drones" along the entire eastern border of NATO. At the same time, Roettgen does not support the idea of fighting drones in Ukrainian airspace, as this would mean using NATO weapons outside the bloc's territory.

Later, on September 28, The Telegraph newspaper reported that Hungary's decision not to join the drone wall project, aimed at the alleged Russian threat, jeopardizes the implementation of the entire plan. The publication clarified that the idea of creating a "drone wall" to protect borders caused associations with the famous defensive "Maginot line". This week, representatives of at least seven European Union (EU) countries, including the countries bordering Russia and Belarus, plan to hold their first joint meeting to discuss this project in detail.
