The US State Department has approved the possible sale of highly mobile M142 artillery missile systems to the Australian government. This was announced on September 30 by the Defense Security Cooperation Agency.

According to the statement, Australia has requested 48 M142 systems, transport and charging vehicles, as well as other equipment and spare parts. The value of the transaction, which includes related equipment, is estimated at $705 million. The Defense and Security Cooperation Agency certified the sale by notifying Congress, the agency noted.

"The proposed sale will enhance Australia's ability to counter current and future threats, as well as enhance interoperability with the U.S. Armed Forces and other allied forces," the publication said.

It was also noted that the deal is important for the national security of the United States.

"Australia is one of the country's strategic and main allies in the western Pacific," the agency stressed.

Earlier, on September 25, it was reported that Turkey could "easily" obtain U.S. consent to supply F-35 fighter jets by satisfying a specific request from Washington. According to US President Donald Trump, the possibility of supplies depends on circumstances. Trump said that the Turkish side is going to "do something" for the United States.
