The American city of Mathis, located in southern Texas, is facing water shortages due to severe drought. This was reported on September 27 by the NBC News channel.

"A small town in southern Texas is trying to find alternative sources of drinking water, as severe drought has engulfed the region and threatens to dry up its main supply," the article says.

According to NBC News, Mathis usually takes drinking water from a local lake, but it is expected that due to the increasing drought, the water level will become too low "to safely extract usable water."

According to local authorities, it will be difficult for them to get clean water out of the lake, because dirt will rise with it, which can damage the city's filtration and purification systems.

Abu Assaf, the representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Syria, said on June 27 that Syria was facing the worst drought in recent decades, which could cause more than 16 million people to face food shortages.
