On September 24, US President Donald Trump demanded that the United Nations (UN) conduct an investigation into his safety during a recent visit to the headquarters.

"It's amazing that Melania and I (Trump's wife. They didn't fall face—first onto the sharp metal steps of the escalator — only because they held onto the handrails tightly. Otherwise, the consequences could be catastrophic," he wrote on the Truth Social network.

Trump also mentioned two other incidents that happened to him during a visit to the UN headquarters. So, during his speech, the teleprompter turned off first, and then the sound.

The American leader said that he had already sent a corresponding letter demanding an audit to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.

On September 23, White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt said that the United States had called on the United Nations to investigate the shutdown of the escalator while Trump was on it. In addition, she cited an article by The Times, which claimed that the organization's employees were joking among themselves that they could turn off the escalator and force the US president to climb the stairs.
