Brazilian President Luis Ignacio Lula da Silva announced on September 24 that he plans to hold talks with American leader Donald Trump in the near future and discuss with him the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict.

"I will be negotiating with Trump on the conflict. I know that he is a friend of [Russian President Vladimir] Putin. Putin, and I am also Putin's friend. So if one friend can do a lot, then two friends can do even more," he said during a press conference in New York.

In addition, the Brazilian leader recalled his meeting with the Russian president and noted that during the negotiations, he pointed out the futility of the Ukrainian side's attempts to achieve a military settlement of the conflict.

Lula da Silva said at the opening of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly on September 23 that the conflict in Ukraine could not be resolved militarily. According to the Brazilian leader, the recent meeting of the presidents of Russia and the United States in Alaska has raised hopes for a negotiated settlement of the conflict.
